About Luke, Page Three

I think teaching Luke compassion and empathy are perhaps the two greatest gifts that my folks have give
n my little brother. Even at just three years old, he is able to share this knowledge with his foster brothers, and to show them how to have fun. He does not allow his medical condition to get in the way of experiencing life as best as he can, and I think he is learning that everyone has their own crosses to bear.
Probably one of the areas I have been encouraging Luke in is that of computers. He is a little small to use even the child's trackball I got him, but he is nevertheless a sponge when it comes to learning. He learns at such an amazing rate, and his memory is unparalleled; I have to admit a tinge of jealousy in that respect! His vocabulary skills are simply amazing for his age, and even at barely three years old he is testing at a five-year-old level in most areas. We all agree he is a g
enius, but we are probably a little biased.
When it comes to life on a farm, there are no free rides; even a little boy will pitch in to do his part (even if it might mean creating more work for his father later on!). My parents have always held strong beliefs in the power of a solid work ethic, and even the youngest can appreciate what a helping hand can accomplish, even if it is something so minor as picking up the toys at the end of the day.
Nobody can know what the future holds, but each of us are excited at Luke's potential. Life is full of hope and sometimes second chances, and we are reminded about that every day that we spend with Luke.
