About Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI)
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is also sometimes known as "Brittle Bone Disease" and results in bones that can be broken very easily--even just by coughing. We are very thankful Luke has a milder form of OI, but even as such he has spent much of his life in splints or casts.
There is a lot to know about OI--much more than we could explain here. We have learned a lot by searching the internet, however, and here are some websites we found particularly helpful.
The Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation
The official OI Foundation website.
Medline Plus OI page
Links to dozens of other OI websites.
The Osteogenesis Imperfecta Clinic at Kennedy Krieger Institute
A good starting point for individuals unfamiliar with OI.
Osteogenesis/Brittle Bone Society
Another site with basic information on OI, with a special emphasis on living with OI.
If you need any information, let us know, and we will do what we can to help you out.
